Chamundi hill – Sri Chamundeshwari Temple, Mysore India

Considered the place where Chamundi killed Mahishasura. Chamundi is considered a manifestation of Durga, Mother goddess. Similarly, the ferocious form of Chandi, the Hindu Mother Parvati. The story is that Durga was involved in a war with demons. Kali manifested from Durga’s forehead and killed them. Durga named her Chamundi. Mahishasura was a buffalo-demon that terrorized people and attacked the heavens.

The earliest inscription at Chamundi Hill is dated 950 AD.

Vitthala is considered an incarnation of Vishnu as Krishna. Construction of the Vitthala Temple began around the mid 1400s.
